Copa: Argentina advances with win over Costa Rica




Argentina shook off its previous lackluster form and beat Costa Rica 3-0 on Monday, booking a place in the Copa America quarterfinals.Sergio Aguero scored in first-half stoppage time, and again in the 52nd minute following a pass from Barcelona star Lionel Messi.Messi showed his best form for the first time in the tournament. Angel Di Maria scored Argentina's third goal in the 64th in a performance that will revive the host nation's pre-tournament expectations of challenging for the title.Argentina improved to 5 points in three matches and finished second in Group A. Colombia was first with 7 points. Colombia will play the best third-place team and Argentina will face the second-place team in Group C: either Chile, Peru or Uruguay.

Costa Rica defeated Bolivia

Costa Rica defeated Bolivia 2-0 on Thursday, boosting the Central Americans' hopes of reaching the knock-stage of the Copa America.Costa Rica went ahead through Josue Martinez's goal in the 60th minute and put the game away with Joel's Campbell's strike in the 79th.Bolivia's Ronald Rivero was sent off in the 71st for using his arm to stop a goal-bound shot.Colombia leads Group A with 4 points, followed by Costa Rica with 3, Argentina 2, and Bolivia 1. Each team has one match to play in the group stage, with the top two to progress to the quarterfinals, along with the best two third-placed teams in the three groups.Costa Rica faces Argentina and Colombia plays Bolivia on Monday.
